Start with the problem you can see, smell or test
Bacteria, iron, manganese, sulphur, sediment, hardness and acidic water require different treatment. Choose the closest symptom below and we will point you towards the correct next step.
Choose the closest match
This is a starting point, not a final diagnosis. We will tell you when a water test is required before treatment is selected.
Order a water analysis
Testing identifies the actual water problems and prevents the wrong equipment being installed.
Planning eligible well or water-treatment works?
The grant can be a major help where a private domestic water supply needs improvement. The process may involve council approval, water testing, quotations, treatment or well works and final documentation.
Each water problem needs a different approach
Bacteria & UV
UV disinfection, flow-rate selection, pre-filtration and annual lamp maintenance.
View bacteria treatment → 02Iron & Manganese
Treatment selected from measured iron, manganese, hardness, pH and other results.
View iron and manganese treatment → 03Sulphur & Odour
Diagnose whether the smell occurs throughout the supply or only at hot water.
View sulphur treatment → 04Sediment Filtration
Choose the correct housing, cartridge type and micron rating for visible particles.
View sediment filtration → 05Hardness & Limescale
Metered water softeners sized according to hardness, occupancy and peak demand.
Choose a water softener → 06Unknown or Multiple Issues
Test first where several symptoms occur or the water quality has not been confirmed.
Order water analysis →Clear-looking water can still require treatment
Bacteria, nitrate, nitrite, acidity and dissolved minerals may not be visible. Conversely, staining or odour does not always reveal the full cause.
A treatment recommendation should account for the full analysis, household demand, pump flow, pressure and the available installation space.

Describe the symptoms
Tell us what you see, smell or have found in a previous test.
Test the water
Obtain the current chemical and microbiological results where required.
Confirm flow and usage
Treatment is sized around the house, well pump and peak water demand.
Select the treatment sequence
Pre-filtration, media, softening and UV are placed in the correct order.

Private-well treatment FAQs
Can I choose a filter based only on the staining or smell?
Symptoms are useful, but they are not enough for final equipment selection. Concentrations, pH, hardness, bacteria and water demand can change the treatment required.
Does UV remove iron, manganese or sediment?
No. UV disinfects water but does not physically remove minerals or particles. Feed water may need sediment, iron or manganese treatment before it enters the UV chamber.
Can one system treat iron, manganese and hardness?
In some water conditions, a multi-function media system can treat several problems. Suitability and capacity must be confirmed from the analysis and household demand.
Is a carbon filter enough for sulphur smell?
Carbon can help in some circumstances, but high or continuous hydrogen-sulphide loading can exhaust carbon quickly. The cause and concentration should be established first.
Can Puresoft help with the Well Water Grant?
Puresoft can help with water testing, treatment recommendations, quotations, filtration work and supporting documentation. Eligibility and approval remain the responsibility of the relevant local authority.
Test the water. Treat the actual problem.
